We never imaged our long awaited get away to Port Isabel would be such a pleasant surprise. We decided to stay at The Yacht Club Hotel because we wanted a unique experience. We met John the hotel manager/owner who welcomed us to his lovely place that possesses so much character and charm, not to mention its own history. Each room at this hotel is different and decorated by Mary, John’s wife. Never having visited Port Isabel before, we were at the mercy of locals to recommend spots for dinner, entertainment, etc. John knew the town inside and out. Every spot he suggested was a hit. The hotel is within walking distance to the active downtown area which includes the lighthouse, shops, restaurants, and museums. Although Mary was out of town, you could never tell that John was the sole caretaker of the hotel. He made sure there was a fresh pot of coffee each morning, warm pastries purchased that morning, and delicious juice. There is a swimming on the premises, a beautiful walk-around balcony with chairs and benches to enjoy a relaxing evening looking out on the water. John was so helpful that he didn’t hesitate to help with a vehicle issue. We went during the Bike Fest at the middle of October and the hotel is far enough from the main strip that each night was a very quiet night. The laid-back attitude of John and atmosphere of The Yacht Club Hotel made our get away really special. We highly recommend The Yacht Club Hotel to anyone who is venturing to Port Isabel.
